Tonight I had a lovely meal at a multi award-winning “Caribbean Fusion” restaurant in Birmingham City Centre; Mellows Bar & Restaurant.
Yummie food, enjoyable cocktails, chilled atmosphere and cosy surroundings. It is definitely worth a visit and deserving of 1 of my food reviews for me to tell you all about it… (And of course, my close up pics of the food too!)
Food Review – Caribbean Fusion ‘Mellows Bar & Restaurant’ Birmingham, England.
As in the photo above, I had the Seabass special for Β£17 which was two Seabass fillets on a bed of dauphinoise potatoes & Spinach. Garnished with wild rocket, basil pesto sauce & balsamic glaze. πππ₯ I really enjoyed this main. It wasn’t too heavy so it left me with room to have two cocktails as well as the food, which is always a good thing in my eyes! π
My date chose from the XL part of the menu for the bigger eaters and opted for the Jerk Salmon Meal for Β£ 20. Well it is a Caribbean infusion menu, so it’s only right one of us chose an option with the famous Jerk seasoning. Plus this is no Marco Pierre White version of Jerk we are talking about either. It’s the real deal authentic flavour to transport your taste buds to a much warmer place!
Accompanying the Jerk salmon fillet on the extra large meal option was a salad garnish, plantain and a choice of eithher jerk or chilli prawns. If that wasn enough, you also get to choose two sides from the list of side dishes. As you can see from the picture, they chose ‘mac n cheese’ and ‘rice n peas’ (again not Marco Pierre White rice with green garden peas, but authentic Caribbean dish consisting of rie and red kidney beans.) π‘πππ€
All washed down with enjoyable cocktails. The cocktail I had was called ‘Rum Bay Punch’ and you know it was enjoyable when you find yourself ordering the same one again rather than trying something new off the menu.Β We also tried a Prosesso and Gin cocktail too with floating strawberries, which went down well as a posing prop for this pic…
The good news about the cocktails is that it is 2-for-10 Tuesday to Thursday from 4pm to 7pm and everyday from 9pm till close! As there is a separate bar area as you enter the restaurant with its own lounge area, you could just come to Mellows for cocktail deals before heading on for a night out in Birmingham’s nightlife. However, I would still try to experience eating here at least once too.
Find the restaurant website at www.mellowscatering.com and if you find them on Instagram @mellows_catering you can see a host of celebrity visitors to the Restaurant too, as many well known people know that when they arrive in Birmingham, they want to be eating at Mellows!
It was lovely to catch up with Mellow the owner & chef himself tonight too. π¨πΏβπ³ He always try’s to come out from the kitchen and speak to customers when he gets chance, which gives a personal touch many restaurants don’t have anymore, esp the chain name ones. The waiting staff are really friendly too which adds to the laid back vibe. It is definitely a place I would recommend as you can see from my happy smile in the picture below:

Ooooo the food looks amazing. The sense of authenticity is really appealing, and the portion sizes look pretty decent too! Love your photos! π
