Gluten-Free 2 course Brunch at ‘The Alchemist’ Bar and Restaurant in Birmingham City Centre – Food Review

I recently attended a Birmingham Bloggers Event ran by House 21 at The Alchemist in Birmingham, which is a venue well known for its amazing cocktails, however I hadn’t eaten here before. Being gluten-free was one of the things that can make you nervous about attending events like this. However, I had a great ‘gluten-free’ experience with this venue and host – so I thought I’d share all about it with my readers.

Of course, I was one of those bloggers at the table that took foodie photos each time my food arrived before I tucked in – It has to be done just in case the food is delicious enough to share. Like in this case! *foodie pics loading*

The Pre-Order Brunch was split into two courses; starter and main brunch item.  There was a good variety of starter options to cater for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans too. Choices from porridge and granola to coconut yoghurt.

For the gluten-free starter I had a selection of fresh fruits, which to some may sound boring but it was actually really enjoyable. the fruit was indeed fresh, generous sizes and a mix of lovely flavours and colours, as you can see in the photos below:

The main course of Brunch also had lots of options from avocado on sour bread, mushrooms on toast to toasted cheese and ham croissant etc. Vegans and Vegetarians were covered in this list too. For the gluten-free main course, The Alchemist kitchen gave me a list to choose from:

  • Broken omelette
  • Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
  • The Veggie Breakfast

I chose ‘smashed omelette’ which was yummie. The kick of the chorizo became a little too much for me towards the end of eating it, so the only thing left on my plate at he end was a few pieces of that. So I can guess from the look of my plate after i’d finished eating, you can say the main course was a hit too!

The Alchemist Birmingham – Drinks Review

Drinks wise, The Alchemist is well known in Birmingham for its amazing cocktails, both for flavour and presentation. However, as it was a Brunch I didn’t try a cocktail on this occasion, but I’m hoping to return one day to try out some of the cocktails on the menu… However, even the way a boiling cup of tea is presented in this venue is enjoyable! (I loved it even more as the cup & saucer is the same pattern set my Nan used to have, so It definitely made me smile) See my Instagram video to appreciate the fun that came with a nice cup of tea: View this post on Instagram

Food and Drink Review : My enjoyable 2 course Gluten-free Brunch at ‘The Alchemist’ Birmingham City Centre

Overall I felt satisfied, not only because of food satisfaction but because I felt as though I had been catered for correctly as well. I had more than one option, which sometimes in restaurants they only give you one option for Gluten-free and that may only be something off the main menu just without the bread/bun. I felt confident that what I was getting was the correct Gluten-free option and all the servers knew I was the customer in this big group who was having the gluten-free when they brought the food out. That is always reassuring. *****

So a big thank you to The Alchemist on Colmore Row in Birmingham UK for a lovely gluten-free 2 course brunch – I’m looking forward to hopefully returning to try your famous cocktails I’ve been hearing about! An additional thank you to Melanie at House 21 for being the go-between for me and The Alchemist kitchen, with getting my gluten-free options to choose from in advance, to make me feel more secure going on the day.

  1. Oh wow, how amazing! I wish I could go to a bloggers event, I imagine that would be really interesting. And what a cool location. I’ve never been to an Alchemist bar but we’re due to get one in my town soon, I think maybe the beginning of next year. It’s good you felt reassured with your choices and that the staff were good, it does make a difference to the experience. Glad you had a good time! ๐Ÿ˜Š
