Happy ‘WORLD EARTH DAY’
April 22nd is ‘World Earth Day’ which grew out of this day in 1970 when millions went to the streets to protest things like pollution,Β pesticides use and other global ecological awareness issues. BelowΒ is a quote from the president of World Earth Day to know more about the origins of the day:
“It is a day of political action and civic participation. People march, sign petitions, meet with their elected officials, plant trees, clean up their towns and roads. Corporations and governments use it to make pledges and announce sustainability measures. Faith leaders, including Pope Francis, connect Earth Day with protecting Godβs greatest creations, humans, biodiversity and the planet that we all live on.”
– Kathleen Rogers,Β President of World Earth Day. (Quote fromΒ www.earthday.org)
Mobilizing the world to End Plastic Pollution

Today I sent back the (wrapped) plastic straw that our waiter brought me…I also explained how detrimental these straws are for our environment and, particularly, for marine life. He seemed surprised! I then suggested he put in a request to his boss to replace these straws with paper ones….he said he would! Go Tamer!

I have just read on the Global Citizen website that the US uses millions of plastic straws each DAY! In UK, 42 companies have just signed the Plastic Pact (check it out online) which is a good step forward, but still leaves a long way to go. Still, I’m hopeful.

Thank you, i’ll check it out. More and more people are defo taking action I think.
Iceland are going to stop using plastic in their frozen meals by 2019 i think it is.
I’ve recently signed a UK petition asking cinema chains to stop using plastic straws in their drinks & use an alternative. If any will take action is another thing…
