“You are…” a SELF-LOVE AFFIRMATION to remind us how AMAZING we are & encouragement for speaking positively about ourselves.

“You are…” AFFIRMATION:

“NOTE TO SELF, Remember that you are AMAZING, PERFECT, EXCEPTIONAL. BRILLIANT, MAGNIFICENT, AWESOME and MAGICAL… Just by being who you are!”

The importance of how we speak to ourselves and how we speak about ourselves:

Children show us how powerful words spoken over them are, eg: Self Fulfilling Prophecy and Self-Defeating Prophecy. Both being true in adulthood also.

“In other words, a positive or negative prophecy, strongly held belief, or delusion—declared as truth when it is actually false—may sufficiently influence people so that their reactions ultimately fulfil the once-false prophecy.” (Quote from Wikipedia explaining Self Fulfilling Prophecy – click here for more information)

If you tell yourself over and over that you are useless, incapable, unlovable etc enough times – then eventually you will believe it & that is how you constantly see yourself.

You have force-fed your subconscious these negative portrayals of you so often that it has become almost ingrained in you that is how you are and who you are. Ultimately this can affect our reactions in life, our relationships, our behaviour and our mental health.

NO!!! Stop accepting it!

This image below is an empowering sticky note you could read to yourself each day to give yourself a dose of this all so important ‘Self-Love’. By repeatedly saying this each day you are erasing the old and ingraining this new subconscious positive portrayal of yourself.

self love affirmation for self love Saturday on Helen's journey blog
Have you spoken nicely about yourself to yourself today?

Since November 2008, so over a decade, I have run a Facebook support group for other chronic pain warriors and Fibromyalgia fighters, like myself, called “‘HELEN’S FIBROMYALGIA AWARENESS & CHRONIC ILLNESS SUPPORT GROUP! I make sure that I post images and words to promote, you’ve guessed it – self-love! 😉

I wrote this message below in the support group as an extra note for the 656 members to go along with the above picture:

We may be unable to physically do things and mentally feel frustrated and annoyed at our body not being able to do what the person inside of us wants it to

– BUT that doesn’t take away our value, worth, importance or fact that we are all rather fantastic!  😘 😍

How to incorporate positive self talk into your daily life:

Talk nicely to yourself, esp when you first thing in the morning, as it can start your day off on a positive note.

Or you could say this affirmation above to yourself as you:

  • brush your hair
  • do your makeup in the mirror
  • wait for the kettle to boil
  • putting on your shoes, etc.

The point is you can’t say you “don’t have time to do it” as you can do it while you do your normal activities!

Take the time out to give yourself doses of Self-Love like it is medicine and part of your treatment plan for Chronic Illness, Mental struggles and self-confidence – along with a whole list more of advantages…

As Nike says “JUST DO IT”

I have a board on Pinterest for all things ‘Self-Love, Self-Help, Self-Care’ and I think having positive and encouraging quotes like these to say to yourself out loud or in your head, can make a big difference to our mental attitude. You can follow it here:

  1. This post is great! I would often slip away from simple tasks because I was always “too busy” to complete it. I would prioritize cleaning into taking a shower, brushing my hair, or even getting dressed. So, dedicating time for loving and taking care of myself has made a huge difference. Thank you for posting!

    1. Hi Sarah, yeah I really had to work hard at retraining my brain to bring in positives for the negatives to balance them out. Defo something I have to work at daily but it gets easier and more natural after pracgicing it. I’d love to see a photo of your fridge 😉👌👍👏💕

  2. SO true. We’ve become so accustomed to feeling worthless and being awful to ourselves that it’s almost second nature. I’m going to try and take your advice and have a post it or note next to my make up mirror! Thank you for this post. Xx

    1. Yes, it really can become second nature. The post it will be a daily reminder to try and break that and make self love & being kind to ourselves our natural response… it takes time and practice, but can surely be done! So glad you are going to give it a try… best wishes &
let me know how you get on… ❤

    1. Hi Lisa, thanks for the comment.
I’m so pleased you loved the post and it was encouragement to try and keep the positivity as part of your fight against chronic illness. We both know its by no means easy, but see it as medicine & worth having as part of your care plan.

  3. What an amazing post.
Self reflection is key and speaking kind and encouraging words is one of the most loving things you can do for yourself and people around you.

  4. Wow! Loved that. Sometimes we forget to be selfish when it comes to loving our selves, but the truth is nothing we ever do will be as amazing as it could be if we don’t care for ourselves.
Thanks for that and keep being positive. In my religion we have a line in the Quran that says: ‘Surely we do not burden a soul more than it can bear’ and that ‘after hardships comes ease’
Keep that in mind and keep smiling!!

    1. Thanks Charleigh, so glad you enjoyed the post and it resonated with your importance of self love. I agree it is hard and something we need to practice at daily to make it easier and ‘the norm’ to us over time. (well that’s the plan anyway…lol)
